La Organización Mundial de Comercio (OMC)  se creó con la firma del Acta Final de la Ronda Uruguay del GATT, celebrada en  Marrakech en diciembre de 1.994. Esta Acta incorpora el  Acuerdo del GATT  de 1.947 con sus anexos.

Estas negociaciones son realizadas  en Ginebra, Suiza y ,el Ministerio de Industria y Comercio analiza y apoya la definición de las posiciones negociadoras de Paraguay presentadas en ese foro sobre temas de Acceso a mercado de productos , Servicios, Inversiones, entre otros. Asimismo, solventa la cuota de membresía de Paraguay en dicha organización..

Cabe mencionar que el Paraguay rindió en el año 2005 su segundo examen ante este organismo internacional.
